Food

You won't be short of great places to buy consumables

  • Panier des 7 Vallées (Hesdin outskirts - see map)
Delicatessen selling a selection of local specialities. Just behind Champion supermarket.
  • Charcuterie D'Artisinale - Place d'Armes (Hesdin)
On the main square, beside the Credit Agricole bank. A wonderful place to pick up delicious traiteur (home-made ready-made meals and starters to take away – coquilles St Jacques, lasagne, quiche etc). Paté and pure pork sausages are also a house speciality. Amazing quality. Just shop here and never cook again!
  • Vegetable shop (Hesdin)
On the pedestrian street off the main square. You can pick up almost everything that’s in season at this amazing little shop (it is quite expensive, though).
  • Carrefour supermarket (Hesdin outskirts - see map)
A good place for a one-stop shop. The butcher and fish counter are also excellent. Their wine selection is extensive.
  • Boulangerie (Hesdin)
On the corner of the main square. A good quality bakery who are open (miraculously) over lunchtime when most shops shut up for a couple of hours. They also open on Sundays until about 1pm. Very nice tarts as well.
  • Boulangerie (Aubin-Saint-Vaast)
The nearest place for bread. Probably a car ride through Cavron St Martin.
  • La Cave Normande (Fruges)
Sells specialist products from Normandy: honey, lavender oil, paté, ciders and spirits (especially calvados). Also makes up gift hampers containing selections of these products.
  • Poissonerie (Etaples)
The shop attached to the restaurant run by the local fisherman’s cooperative. Fish is also sold from charming stalls that line the banks of the river, and in the fish hall below the restaurant. A mind-boggling array of choice, beautifully prepared.
  • Cheese Shop (Montreuil)
On the far corner of the lower market square. Wonderful walls of chese!
  • Chocolat du Beussent (Montreuil)
On the smaller market square. These chocolates are dangerously delicious and highly addictive.
  • Chocolate factory (Beussent)
Visit the factory and see how the chocolates are made.
